In Bed All Day

Note to self – a bottle of wine may make you lay in bed the whole next day.  But this was much needed.  I woke up to the world around 1 but did not actually get up to shower until 5.  No judgment.  I have been running myself on nothing so it was necessary.  I had to get up though because we invited the boys next door over for dinner.  We figured we still had the whole place to ourselves so it would be nice to do something fun.  So we cooked up an amazing dinner and we all enjoyed it.  After dinner,  I went on an adventure in Psiri and then crashed.  Tomorrow is looking like a lot of homework and maybe basketball?  Hmmm, we’ll see about that.

And Then There Were Two

So the rest of the apartment went away for Friday night so it was just Corinne and I.  It was very nice.  I woke up early, we went to the market- got so much amazing food, came back for a relaxing lunch, eventually went downtown where I got some heels finally, I went to the Centre for my date with Tone, then Corinne and I decided to make dinner together.  It turned out very nicely.

(Dinner)

After dinner, since the weather was being crappy, we decided to just stay in with everyone and have a good night.  I drank a bit too much wine but it was a good time.  Tomorrow is looking like a day of relaxation, which is much needed at this point.

Best Free Dinner Ever With The Cutest Couple

The day began like normal – shower, breakfast, getting ready for class, etc.  Then it was off to Sanctuaries and Festivals.  Class was pretty good.  After that we had to make our way to the National Archeology Museum again for our Archeology class.  On the way down Corinne and I picked up a delicious treat and had to pry ourselves away from the woman who was going on and on about her daughter.  It was cute.  The museum was great – he discussed sculpture.  Here is an example of something we chatted about:

It was a good time and we stayed until we got sho-ed away from the employees (museums close promptly at 3).  On the way home we picked up some amazing pizza that we discovered last week.  We also had to take a photo of a common occurrence in Greece.  Mopeds tend to take the sidewalks and a lot of the time we take the streets.

Once home we only have a tiny amount of time before Modern Greek so I made my way up to the roof to enjoy some sunlight.  In Greek we had a quiz, which was not the best but the anticipation for the night made it worth it.  The Munn’s decided that they wanted to host dinner for groups of 4 every week we are here.  I signed up for the first with Corinne, Tina, and Anna.  So the girls came over a little after 7, we finished up getting ready (we all decided to look very nice and wear dresses), and made our way to their apartment.  It was such a cute place and such an amazing time.  It was nice to get to talk to them more individually.  We enjoyed some amazing pistachios from Aegina and wine (I found some red wine here that I actually enjoy) and then it was onto dinner.  It was an amazing pasta dish with olives (yes Tone – you heard it…. I had olives and loved it) and a salad.  We stayed for hours just talking about tons of stuff until we were all basically falling asleep.  Mary Lou is a Sag so we have tons in common (Marky Mark is a Cancer…. Hmmm).  I came home and relaxed.  Laike (the street market) is tomorrow so that means tons of cheap and amazing fruits and veggies.  We are hoping to find a place to dance the night away, going to the beach on Saturday to do some homework, and then relaxing Sunday for our big trip on Tuesday.  Life is good.

Plataea, Greece and Surrounding Area

Today was our first daylong field trip in the middle of the week.  I’d have to say that I love it.  The sun was doing beautiful things in the morning, which was a good omen.

So I got ready to go and was on the bus at 9a.  We first stopped at an Ancient Tower.

There is stuff like this all over Greece.  Its kind of funny.  For instance, on the way to lunch we took a stop at an Ancient Fortress, Oinoe – no big deal.

After the Ancient Tower it was off to Eleutherai for our picnic lunch.  To my surprise I would be crossing an endeavor off of my list at the same time.  There was a restaurant with facilities that we could use when we parked.  So I went for it and it turned out to be Turkish Style.  Here is a photo to explain:

Anyway, I was excited about that.  After that it was a picnic lunch on some ancient ruins and then some lecturing.

After Eleutherai we headed over the Plataea, which was very nice.  It was over the mountains so we got to see some rolling hills for the first time, which was a nice change of pace.  Every team gave speeches for our City States class there so it made it a more fun site visit.  We had some time to walk around and appreciate the site and then it was time to go.

After Plataea we took a detour to a spot Mary Lou enjoys.  It was a dead town but had a lot of character.  I got some chocolate and went for a nice walk.

I enjoyed a nice nap on the way home.  Once home it was just a relaxing night of homework, dinner, more napping, and spending time with people.  Tomorrow is another school day but then a 3-day weekend of fun!!!  Then a 5 day trip!!!!

Demonstrations

Yesterday we were told that our Archeology trip to the museum was canceled due to extensive demonstrations downtown.  So it was just a normal Tuesday.  I woke up, finished up my paper (thanks Tone – you are the BEST), did some laundry, and headed off to class.  Classes were extra awful today.  5 hours of class with only long enough break to breath.  However, the sun was shining in the morning so that added a positive to the day.  After class I did some necessary grocery shopping.  We have a day trip to Plataea tomorrow.

Here is the itinerary:
9a – bus departs to travel to Ancient Fortress of Oinoe
11a – Travel to Eleutherai
12:30 – Picnic lunch!
2p – Plataea

My favorite part of the itinerary is the line at the bottom which states “There are no bathrooms at Eleutherai and Plataea.”  We have been getting that a lot on this trip haha.

Valentine’s Day in Athens

The day began with an early return flight back to Athens.  The flight was smooth with a very pretty view.

The flight back was smooth, hopped on a bus – easy ride back.  Enough time to have lunch and get ready for class.  The rest of the day was a bit of a blur.  We had City States – still the most embarrassing class ever.  Then in Modern Greek we learned to dance and it was in place of our quiz!  So that was a great way to end the day.  I completed my Valentine’s Day with some milk, chocolate, and Nick and Norah.  It was a great day.

Fun phrase we learned in Greek! –
You are driving me crazy – Mε τρελαίνεις (pronounced me trelaineis)
