Class Trip to the Agora!

We had our first field trip today!!!! It reminded of junior high (pre-Bobby/Amanda… for those of you who know what I am talking about, I am laughing with you).  It was with our Sanctuaries and Festivals class.  Before that, I went for a run and had the MOST amazing omelet ever.  We had to meet at 10:30 to make our way over.  The walk was decent (about 40 minutes) until we reached the Agora.

The Agora was the ancient market place and civic center.

Our focus was the Temple of Hephaistos – Hephaistos was the only not-perfect Olympian God that did metal work, always pictured with a hammer.  We actually got to go into the temple – this is not normal protocol – to get a wonderful view.

We had our lecture there, which was quite a change from the classroom.  There was a beautiful dog that joined us in our lecture.  After lecture we were set free… however, we had class at 1:45 and we were done class at 12:20, so that did not leave much time.  It was enough time for some pictures though!

We found our way back and made a wonderful lunch (Greek salad…mmmm).  Then it was off to 4 hours of class – not fun.  They aren’t bad classes just too much.  Too much study and not enough abroading.  However, we were discussing our personal “weekend” trips that we are going to go on and I think it is going to be very exciting.  We have our first over-night adventure with the program tomorrow to Aegina!  I must pack my bag up and then hit the town with the group tonight first though!!!  I think I could get used to this lifestyle.
